Position Description and Candidate Specifications forSummer Camp Modern Dance InstructorCamp Description, Locations, WebsiteWiz Kids Sports Camps are seasonal youth sports camps that offer athletic and academic enrichment to participants. TitleModern Dance Instructor QualificationsPrior Modern Dance related instruction experience at the elementary or high school level. An Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Performing or Fine Arts is highly preferred.Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively engage with campers, staff, and leadership.Ability to lead, motivate, and supervise groups of children in an active camp environment.Demonstrated commitment to maintaining a safe, positive, inclusive, and engaging environment for all campers.Experience developing or facilitating age-appropriate drills, practices, games, or recreational activities.Previous summer camp, youth development, education, recreation, or childcare experience.CPR, First Aid, AED, or other applicable safety certification.Experience working with children of varying ages, abilities, and skill levels. Position ResponsibilitiesThe Modern Dance Instructor is responsible for teaching fundamental skills as well as more advanced strategy.Guides campers through the day‐to-day activities of the overall camp experience.Teaches sound technique classes based on current best practices for the physical and developmental health of the student.Develop critical artistic sensibilities.Instill skills and lessons that go beyond the studio.Choreographs the end of session camper showcaseTeaches campers basic dance steps and more advanced steps where applicable.Instill an appreciation for dance.Gives or assigns individual help as needed, using dance junior associates working off to the side.Ensure the welfare of campers and positive resolution of camper related issues by communication clearly and consistently with camp leadership staff.Willingness to comply with Suspected Child Abuse Reporting (Subsection (a)(6) of 325 ILCS 5-4).Additional duties as contracted.Camp HoursMonday to Thursday 10-4:30pm and Friday from 8:30-4:30pm - this is subject to change dependent on camper enrollment and grade class sizes. *Please note these are the tentative dates for the Operation of the Wiz Kids 2027 Camp Season.EventHomewood-FlossmoorWhitney YoungWestmontStaff OrientationMay 29, 2027June 5, 2027May 22, 2027 (TBD)Camp Move-InJune 4–6, 2027June 11–12, 2027June 4–5, 2027 (TBD)Camp Operation DatesJune 7-August 6, 2027June 14-August 6, 2027June 7-August 6, 2027 (TBD)CompensationStarting at $27.50/hrApplicationTo apply for this position please open the link below to our career site.
